Nautica

Built in one night at the Nuit de l'Info, Nautica turns the world's oceans into a game: spin a 3D globe, open an ocean, learn a few sourced facts and take its quiz.

01Context

The Nuit de l'Info is a national student event where teams have one night to build an application around a given theme.

In 2024, the theme focused on the ocean. We wanted to create something simple, visual and interactive rather than a traditional information page.

02What we built

Nautica is an interactive 3D globe that lets users explore different oceans.

Each point on the globe opens a page with a short overview, a few sourced facts and a quiz. The interface was built with Angular, while the globe was handled with Three.js.

03My contribution

I worked on the visual side of the 3D globe. Starting from an existing Three.js asset, I added the textures and relief to make the Earth look more detailed and realistic.

I also took part in the overall idea and design of the experience.

04What I learned

The main challenge was the time limit: we had to make decisions quickly, split the work efficiently and focus on what we could realistically finish in one night.

It was also my first experience working with Three.js and a 3D element inside a web project.
